A youngster broke his leg after tripping over the jumping pit during the men’s triple jump event at the Inter-State Athletic Championship at Bhubaneswar. Twenty year old Akhilesh from Karnataka sustained a serious injury on his right leg. After running from the runway, Akhilesh stuck his first leg and tried to jump from the second leg but akhilesh fell into the landing pit. He hit the take-off board near the landing pit and lost his footing. A loud noise was heard when Akhilesh stepped into the take-off board. Akhilesh tried to get up from the pit but could not. The organizers and medical team rushed to see that the leg was broken and hanging. He was then transferred to the hospital in an ambulance. A native of Udupi, Akhilesh has achieved many achievements in triple jump and long jump U-20 championship.
