Description

This declaration sets out the principles and rules identified by the International Institute of Humanitarian Law, meeting in Taormina on 7 April 1990, as positive international law or as emerging rules of international law, in particular the distinction between combatants and civilians, the prohibition on inflicting superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering, the prohibition of perfidy, the obligation to respect and protect medical and religious personnel, the prohibition of attacks on dwellings, the protection of objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population, and prohibitions or restrictions on the use of certain weapons.
