Following the creation in 1919 of the League of Red Cross Societies - now the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - and the subsequent restructuring of the International Red Cross, it became necessary to specify the role and functions of each component of the Movement. The first Statutes of the International Red Cross were thus adopted in 1928. In view of the expansion of Red Cross activities, the Statutes were revised in 1952 and then again more recently. The work on the latest revision took four years and resulted in the text featured here, which entered into force on 8 November 1986. Less
